What they do...

Members of the Zoning Board of Adjustment are appointed to the board by the Selectboard, for 4-year terms. This board administers Zoning Bylaw issues; hearings are convened, as necessary, to hear appeals of the Zoning Administrator’s decisions. Hearings are also held to review conditional use applications, and requests for variances.

Zoning Adminstrator

This administrative officer is nominated by the Planning Commission, and hired by the Selectboard, to administer the municipal bylaws literally. The ZA does not have the power to permit any land development that is not in conformance with such bylaws. He or she is responsible for enforcement of all rules and regulations pertaining to the zoning ordinance. If the administrative officer denies a request for a zoning permit, he or she must advise the applicant of that individual’s right to appeal the decision or action to the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
